Today my heart swings

OMG guys I have had the most intense and exciting day!

• I got to the hospital at 7am for surgical ward rounds.
• I realized how difficult it must be for patients being awoken at that ungodly hour, having a group of doctors stand around them and talk about them as if they’re not there and then abruptly leave the room.
• And then I went straight to theatre to watch the surgeons do their thing.
• I got taught how to scrub in but I took too long to get back into theatre so I missed the whole thing and just got to cut the suturing string for the surgeon at the end.
• I found out that some surgeons listen to music when they’re operating. I was listening to Kanye while watching a carpal tunnel release surgery.
• I then got to see a C section! I saw a baby come into the world! OMG. It looked like a blue little alien when it first came out.
• And then I was on the wards on my own just looking for patients to talk to and this hottt intern came up to me and said, “hey you, have you done a male urinary catheterization before? Come with me.” He had already started walking off before I had the chance to say, “ahh no this is my second week on wards!”
• Anyway I eventually suggested that I should just probably watch for the first one, but then I followed him around for the rest of the day and watched him do other things.
• He kept quizzing me and whenever I didn’t know something he’d be like, “there’s a computer. Go and look it up and then report back to me.”
• And then I left at 5… big, long day over. Awesome.
