— lessadventurous: that's really interesting, that religion question ozge! i'm catholic, but personally wouldn't find religion/spirituality that distinct to engaging with boys/alcohol/partying because religion + faith are meant to govern and guide morality. to my mind, one can still party and date because it doesn't conflict with morality. that said, the church + relig to some extent would frown upon some of the activities engaged in by youth, and i can see how a religiously-inclined person would find difficult.
Yeah I agree with that. I think the only reason why I believe that abstaining from partying etc and being religious are so inextricably linked is because of the way I was brought up, and how most Muslims are brought up. I grew up thinking that drinking and being involved with any boy before you’re married is completely immoral, because that leads to promiscuity, people getting hurt, violence etc. I do still think that doing those things in excess is bad. But like you said, if you do it in moderation and it’s not causing harm to anyone, then you shouldn’t be considered an immoral person.
But I guess some people would argue that it’s important to make sacrifices to show your devotion to God. I don’t know what I think about that.
