Today I got to scrub in for the caesarean of a 163kg lady, I contaminated a sterile field in theatre so the scrub nurse got grumpy at me and had to set it up again, I put in a catheter, I put my gloves on the opposite hands so that my hands were stretched into a claw shape during when I was scrubbed in helping suction the blood and pulling back the fat with retractors (but I just pretended they were on right so as not to embarrass myself), and I stole scrubs from the hospital, like every other medical student in history. ~yayyy theatre is so much fun.~

I don’t know how people ever vented their frustration...

I don’t know how people ever vented their frustration toward business before social media. I love that the 2000s are all about customer service. Because if you’re not going to provide it, you can be sure that the whole of the internet is going to find out about it soon enough. Especially with hospitality businesses I think, with all the urbanspoons and food blogs out there. Which is a great thing for consumers.

~I wanted to pay my dad back for my car repayments because they are under his account before he got a late fine, but NAB took over a day to process my transfer between NAB->NAB gahh~

Sometimes, when you’re sick of leaving the house while it’s pitch black to get to ward rounds every day and sucking up to doctors who will hopefully teach you something in between their busy schedules, you need to just stay in bed with a delicious hot mug of coffee, and do some light reading until your next class at 12.

It was one of those days when it’s a minute away from snowing and there’s this electricity in the air, you can almost hear it. Right? And this bag was just dancing with me. Like a little kid begging me to play with it. For fifteen minutes. That’s the day I realized that there was this entire life behind things, and this incredibly benevolent force that wanted me to know there was no reason to be afraid, ever. Apparently you never know when keeping all of your assignments and tests and work-books from year 7 onwards (because you’re a massive nerd) can come handy in your adult life. I’m tutoring a girl in year 9 maths at the moment and she has an exam tomorrow so I have dug up a whole bunch of practice questions for her from my own year 9 exams many many years ago.

During that process I also found this little project that I did in year 9 health for “STI prevention.” Totes got an A+ on that shit.

The progesterone in the combined pill will thin your endometrium so that when you are trying to get periods they will be much, much lighter than before.
You can get your monthly withdrawal bleed on the pill and STILL BE PREGNANT. Bleeding doesn’t tell you that you’re not pregnant. The fact that you take your pill regularly does.
When you first go on the pill it is common to get spotting and intermenstrual bleeding for a couple of months.
During the time that you’re taking your sugar pills is when you are most at risk of ovulating and falling pregnant.
When you first go on the pill you can get symptoms of nausea, weight gain and breast tenderness which can mimic pregnancy.
Progesterone only pills don’t prevent ovulation. They just thicken the cervical mucous plug and make the endometrium unfavourable for implantation.
Emergency contraception won’t work if you’ve already ovulated before taking it (rare.)

You might have an amazing GP who told you all of this, but mine certainly didn’t, and I feel like knowing about these things that are going on in your body when you’re taking an exogenous hormone is pretty important.
